Teacher Interns Complete Successful Summer
Scecina adviser Chad Tuley became the first to complete a "broadcast" internship when he completed four weeks of work with Channel Six news. Chad joined Meredith Bledsoe, Hamilton Southeastern, who interned as a photographer for the Indianapolis Star and Lori Volheim, Elkhart Memorial, who joined the news staff at the South Bend Tribune. See a special audio slide show of Lori's exprience here, and don't miss each intern's essay at the bottom of this page including a slide show of Meredith's favorite photos from her summer at The Star.

Tuley discusses the excitement of seeing stories develop from concept to actual story packages aired a few hours later.

Tuley observed professional news team capture major breaking news in the city often with only a few hours until deadline.

•One of the important lessons learned on the job was writing tightly to fill a specific time slot. Chad discusses the difference between writing for print and for broadcast.

•Channel Six news producer Brady Gibson says Chad was different from most interns because of Tuley's interest in the "process."

Tuley says that internships give advisers the opportunity to upgrade their own skills, especially technical skills that directly benefit students in the classroom.

Testing for JEA Certification Added to State Convention
The Journalism Education Association (JEA) will administer a test for JEA certification during the IHSPA Fall Convention Oct. 16-17. JEA requires a minimum of five advisers be signed up before the tests can be given. Teachers may apply for the certification test at this link:
